In Silicon Valley and beyond, some people take small amounts of psychedelics, a technique known as "microdosing" that is thought to promote productivity. Now a new study suggests that microdoses of magic truffles - the underground part of magic mushrooms - can also stimulate creativity.
The study, from a research team based in the Netherlands, Germany and the Czech Republic, recruited several dozen participants at an event organized by the Psychedelic Society of the Netherlands. These participants were tested for the first time on different cognitive skills. To assess different thinking, a form of creative thinking, the team asked the subjects to come up with as many possible applications for a common household object. To assess converging thinking, also a form of creativity, the researchers had the subjects that identify the common association between different images. And for a test of liquid intelligence, participants had to deduce what image was lacking in a certain matrix of images.
After taking the first tests, participants received a microdose of dried psychedelic truffles and after about 90 minutes - the tail of the 'peak period' of the drug - they recaptured all three tests. On average, the participants scored higher on the two creativity measurements, divergent and convergent thinking, after microdosing. The results for fluid intelligence, which can be roughly described as reasoning and problem-solving ability, were about the same.
"Our results suggest that consuming microdose truffles allowed participants to create more out-of-the-box alternative solutions to a problem," the authors write in the study. (The authors did not return any requests for comments.)
If you take a microdosage Magic truffles, you experience very subtle effects. It does not come close to the psychedelic effects of a normal Magic Truffles dosage. Hallucination is therefore not the goal if you have microdose.
In general, the effect of microdosing is improving a person's well-being and performance in a subtle way. This without negative consequences. You will be able to function normally in your daily life, but you may notice that things you feel are easier and more fun.
Here is a list with some possible effects:
- Better focus
- Increased alertness
- Improved creativity
- More energy
- A happy, exalted feeling
- More aware of the environment
- More open in social situations
In addition, recent research has shown that microdosing psychedelics may alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety. Although this is amazing news, it is important to realize that the research is still in full swing. So if you have depression or anxiety, do not replace medication with psychedelics without consulting a doctor.
Do you want to go microdosing? Then you have to know what you are doing. Before you know it you've had too much and you see things at work that your colleagues can not see.
The best way to take truffles for microdosage is when you grind the truffles into powder. The ideal dose for microdosing differs per person and depends on several factors such as:
The strength of the truffles
How your body responds to it
What and how much you have eaten
This is a quest that you must undergo. We can advise a general amount: a microdosage is often 10% to 5% of a normal dosage. A typical microdosage dried truffles is + - 300 milligrams. If you use fresh truffles, you need about 500 milligrams.
When you have no effect or you get a trippy feeling, adjust the microdosage the next time. Pay attention to the effects, then you can find out which dose suits you best.
Preparing a Microdosage
A microdosage is very precise, so you need a good scale. A scale that shows reliable and precise figures. Most people use a scale that can weigh from 0.01.
Capsules are useful to have. You then fill each capsule with one microdosage. An advantage of capsules is that you can easily store them.
You can grind your truffles into powder with a bean grinder.
Microdosing with Truffles
And now? When do you take what? The general advice is to take one micro dose every four days, ten weeks in a row. Taking a microdosage more often is pointless. Your body builds a tolerance for psilocybin after the first microdose that lasts for about two days.
A typical microdosing week looks like this:
Day 1: microdose
Day 2: nothing
Day 3: nothing
Day 4: microdose
Day 5: nothing
Day 6: nothing
Day 7: microdose
